Naked Law 2.0: Do You Remember the First Time?
We noticed that UK law blogger Nearly Legal recently celebrated the first birthday of his blog (congratulations to him). About a year ago, we at Naked Law also celebrated our first birthday. Today, we're hitting number two - so it's time for a bit of blogging nostalgia and reflection.
Exactly two years ago today, we played around with Typepad, put together the first stab at the Naked Law layout, and Alasdair blogged our first post. Since that first post, the team has grown substantially - including new posters Mark, Nicky, and Richard (see our "About page"). We now have a team of up to ten people posting to the blog. The blog still looks fairly similar, though this is going to change within the next few weeks - any suggestions for changes gratefully received.
Within the last two years, a few things have changed in the UK law blogging community, which is now considerably more diverse than when we started. Blogs on family law and property law have joined the tech law bloggers; Charon QC has taken UK law podcasting to a new level of sophistication; and the team at Out-law have introduced Out-law radio (though they haven't yet opened Out-law's news items up to comment). Geeklawyer's conference successfully brought the disparate elements of the UK law blogging scene together and Rupert at the Gazette continues to champion the cause. The Lawyer even tracks web/law developments on page 2 every week. Suddenly everyone is talking up Web 2.0 (see the recent leader in Computing).
We're now working with Alex and Andrew at Impact and Justin at Human Law on a book on blogging and social media (we're writing on the legal stuff). This is giving us a good opportunity to look at the issues that have arisen in blogging over the past couple of years and those that are likely to arise in the near future. In the meantime, watch this space for changes to Naked Law over the next few weeks (and years!) ...
