Biography
Naked Law is a blog (or “blawg”) written by IT/ technology lawyers.
We write about the latest UK legal/regulatory developments affecting the IT and other hi-tech industries, including in procurement and outsourcing, exploitation and protection of intellectual property, privacy and data protection, e-commerce and distance selling, and e-government.

Alasdair Poore

Alasdair is a partner and heads the firm's IT team. Having studied law and natural sciences at Cambridge University he qualified as a barrister and worked for seven years on patents and licensing within Shell UK. He has vast experience in advising on the exploitation and protection of ideas and research emanating from both public institutions and private companies.
Alasdair is recognised as a 'Leading Individual' by Chambers Guide to the Legal Profession 2006.
Kevin Calder

Kevin has been a member of the firm's Technology Team since 1999 and has a wide range of experience in IT and internet issues, as well as dealing with intellectual property protection and exploitation, and being involved in media and telecoms work.
Kevin has completed secondments at two of Cambridge's largest software companies, and continues to work closely with a number of leading companies in the field.
Sarah Cole

Sarah joined the Technology Team in 2003 following a law degree at Oxford University.
Sarah acts for a range of IT and hi-tech businesses, from university spin-outs to multinational plcs. She advises on a range of IT and IP matters including software development and licensing, reseller arrangements, internet and website issues, outsourcing and the protection of IP. Sarah also advises a range of public sector bodies in relation to IT procurement and the exploitation of their IP.
Peter Wainman

Before Peter joined the Technology Team in 2004, he worked for a City law firm, where he advised clients on data protection and e-commerce matters and acted on a number of large IT outsourcing projects.
Since joining the team, Peter continues to take an interest in information law and privacy matters. He acts for a number of technology companies in the IT and life sciences industries on the development and exploitation of intellectual property, and advises commercial clients, Universities, and NHS Trusts on compliance with e-commerce and privacy legislation.
Rachel Witt

Rachel is a solicitor who joined Mills & Reeve in 2003, and who has recently qualified into the Technology Team.
Rachel has undertaken a wide variety of work in the technology field, with a current focus on trade marks, commercial agreements with an intellectual property slant, and design work. She has also been advising on contentious matters since joining the team.
Judith Kirkpatrick

Judith Kirkpatrick is a Senior Solicitor in the technology and commerce team. Judith joined Mills & Reeve in 2007.
After completing her engineering degree Judith re-qualified as a Solicitor. Since being admitted as a solicitor in 2000 Judith worked for a high technology company in Cambridge as an in-house lawyer. She was responsible for drafting and negotiating multi-million dollar agreements with large international companies in Europe, China and Taiwan. She was also responsible for the software licensing side of the business including open source software licenses.
Nicky Kenward

Nicky joined the Technology Team in 2006, having studied Intellectual Property and IT law at masters level.
Nicky advises on a variety of contentious and non-contentious matters within the technology field, with a particular focus on trade marks, design rights and copyright law. Nicky also has experience advising in the areas of IT, biotechnology and e-commerce/data protection
Paul Knight

Paul is a solicitor in the Technology and Commerce team. He joined Mills & Reeve as a trainee solicitor in September 2007.
Paul's recent work includes advising clients on the protection and enforcement of trade mark rights, drafting software licence agreements for use in the Primary Health Care market and acting for a central government agency in relation to the provision of a national telephony and web based health care system.
